Scientology's 'narCONon' Director Found Guilty

Head of Scientologist “Narconon” center sentenced in Pavlodar
narconon guilty
Translation of kt.kz [Kazakhstan Today]: Pavlodar. November 25. Kazakhstan Today – The widely-noted trial of the “Narconon” center, which is connected with the religious Scientology organization, ended today in Pavlodar, reports the Kazakhstan Today news agency.

Pavlodar City Court Number 2 issued a guilty verdict against the 25-year-old director of the "Narconon" center and sentenced her to a heavy fine of 7,700 dollars*. The court stated that the convicted defendant has the right to legally appeal the decision within 15 days.

As previously reported, the defendant was charged under Article 190 of the Kazakhstan Criminal Code (illegal business activity). According to the charges, the Narconon rehabilitation and educational center where she worked was engaged in the illegal practice of medicine and provided services to persons suffering from drug or alcohol addiction.

Evgeniya TarkhanovaThe trial was the result of operations carried out on November 20, 2008 by the Department of Economic Crimes and Corruption. The financial police found that the “Narconon” center had archives containing almost a thousand files labeled “confidential” concerning persons who received services.

In addition, during the search, police seized “accounting documents, 134 packages containing various kinds of medicinal preparations that did not specify the country of origin, a large number of Scientology-oriented books, a program describing the 'Purification' course, a program for the application of medicinal preparations, advertising and promotional materials."

narconon-kazakhstanIn all, police seized more than 60 boxes of documents, religious literature, and medicinal preparations not registered in Kazakhstan. The financial police reported that "Narconon" patients were misled and that the money received by the organization's leadership was labeled as voluntary donations.

"The forensic chemical analyses of the substances seized during searches concluded that all the substances under investigation, with few exceptions, were medicinal preparations (vitamins, dietary supplements, food products) that are not registered in the state registry of medicines of the Republic of Kazakhstan and that their use in the territory of Kazakhstan is prohibited. The therapeutic doses of active substances in certain vitamins and dietary supplements greatly exceeded the permissible limits," said the financial police.

*The fine is 900 MCI (Monthly Calculated Indexes), 1 MCI = 1,273 tenge, $1 US = 148.75 tenge.

Scientology's 'Mission: Global Implosion' Continues [videos]

scientology reckoningexaminer.com ~ Following accusations by Sydney's Nick Xenophon of "false imprisonment, coerced abortions, embezzlement of church funds, physical violence, blackmail and the widespread deliberate abuse of information obtained by the organization," Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is the latest leader to express concern over allegations of "a worldwide pattern of abuse and criminality" by the Church of Scientology, and is contemplating a parliamentary inquiry.

The organization is under police investigation, and yesterday angry ex-Scientologists and Anonymous members, spurred on by the claims, converged on its Australian headquarters calling for its tax-exempt status to be revoked.

youtube playlist linkListen to the 'Coast to Coast interview with author Marc Headley' playlist on YouTube [12 parts].

A new book called Blown for Good: Behind the Iron Curtain of the Church of Scientology by Marc Headley, an employee of the church's Los Angeles headquarters for 15 years, details allegations of systematic abuse and bizarre episodes, such as the three weeks Headley claims he spent under instruction from Tom Cruise in how to move bottles and other objects by concentrating on them.

Headley's book follows a year in which Scientology has been plagued by unwelcome revelations from high-profile defectors and fresh media investigation into its practices.

France24: French Court Convicts Church of Scientology of Fraud
The so-called "church" was recently convicted of widespread fraud in France, where it is considered a cult and is currently embroiled in a criminal investigation within the borders of Belgium.

Paul Haggis Renounces Scientology In Blistering Letter
HuffPo ~ The 56-year-old Haggis, who won an Oscar in 2005 for co-writing "Crash," said he was quitting the Church of Scientology after 35 years. "I could not, in good conscience, be a member of an organization where gay-bashing was tolerated," Haggis wrote.

Haggis wrote a letter addressed to Tommy Davis, the head of Scientology's Celebrity Centre. In it, Haggis said he was disappointed by the church's tacit denial of gay rights in the debate over California's gay marriage ban.

Jason Beghe Leaves The Cult of Scientology
American actor Jason Beghe (Filmography) was the first of Scientology's celebrity followers – for whom the church maintains a "Celebrity Centre" in L.A. – to break with it, after giving the church more than $1 million in donations over 12 years.

Beghe warns that the church is "destructive and a rip-off". He claims that since his renunciation of Scientology he has been pursued to seminars in Europe – held to speak of its dangers – by private investigators employed by Scientology and "disconnected" from former friends who remain within it.

In The Beginning, Let There Be 'Crazy'
The church faced global ridicule after an internal videotape by Cruise, the church's most high-profile member, was leaked and went viral on the Internet. It showed a rambling Cruise laughing inexplicably while saying that Scientologists were uniquely equipped with the knowledge necessary to cure most of the world's ills, including crime, drugs, mental health problems and violence.

The Thriving Cult of Greed and Power
Time: Scientology - Cult of GreedScientology has attempted, unsuccessfully, to sue the media, including U.S. mainstays the Washington Post and Time magazine. The repeated attempts to use the courts to silence critics have been criticized in the judgments that have been upheld against Scientology, including one in 1996 that described its "documented history of vexatious behavior" and abuse of "the [US] federal court system ... to destroy their opponents, rather than to resolve an actual dispute over trademark law or any other legal matter".

The decision of Beghe and Haggis to quit Scientology appears to have caused the movement its greatest recent PR difficulties, not least because of its dependence on Hollywood figures as both a source of revenue for its most expensive courses, and an advertisement for the religion. The involvement of such high-profile figures as Haggis, Cruise and John Travolta has acted as a reassurance for potential recruits against the allegations of its critics.

If Cruise's church was planning a mission to go out in a spectacular crash and burn implosion, then I'd say their project is right on schedule. That's a wrap! Lunch, everybody!

Scientology,Poisoning the Universe,One Planet At A Time

freewinds dumping
In a flooded Cumbrian village that has no water, Scientology is boasting of volunteers padding the streets in high vis rigout on the off chance that lost souls might still need saving from the rain or flood that some have called biblical.

But in the meantime, their cruise ship, the Freewinds, home of the Church of Scientology Flag Ship Service Organization, has been busy poisoning the water tables of the island Bonaire [see map] for the past few years.

Sean PatonAs a sidenote: The liner docks in Bonaire, Aruba, Curacao, and St. Kitts. It has been dubbed the Death Ship and the Failwinds due to the fact that is is laden with dangerous blue asbestos which was reported to Scientology’s upper management by Lawrence Woodcraft back in 1987 who oversaw the original renovation of the ship.

But back to the most ethical people on the planet and how they continue to pollute the ground water of Bonaire. Unfortunately Sean Paton, from Forum Antilles radio news program, has had little success in getting their government to address the destruction of the environment. Recent posts to youtube show how the waste products transported from the Scientology's cruise ship, Freewinds, are destroying the Bonaire's water supply.

These two videos show the Freewinds dumping in the middle of the night. Tests are showing fecal pollution in the local wells. It is another crime against the planet by the cult of Scientology.

Recent News: Cruise-Line Dumping
To get a better idea of how much of a problem this is, here is a report by FOXnews that explains how this type of dumping is affecting our coastal environment.

...Raw sewage contains disease pathogens and toxins, impairs the respiratory functions in water life, and causes algae blooms. And cruise ships are dumping it just off shore, possibly washing up on the beach near where your family is vacationing.

Though most travelers don’t know about this practice, environmentalists tell Foxnews.com this kind of wastewater dumping is all too common for the cruise industry: Federal lawsuits have been filed against the cruise ship companies. The U.S. Coast Guard and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have cracked down on the firms. For years, legislators have tried to get a new bill passed which would reign in the hazardous practices.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the cruise industry has grown at double the rate of the rest of the travel industry. The average cruise ship has the capacity for as many as 7,000 passengers and crew members; the boats are floating cities, with restaurants, hair salons, dry cleaners and entertainment venues.

During a typical week, EPA says, a cruise ship with 3,000 passengers can generate 200,000 gallons of waste and sewage and 1 million gallons of gray water from showers and drains.

As the vessels leave port and turn back out to sea, the ship’s engineers dump tons of raw human waste, as well as all of the gray water accumulated during the week-long cruise. That water pollution kills fish and other marine life, and creates a massive algae bloom, despoiling the pristine waters...

Xenophon- Here to Chew Bubblegum and Kick Ass

...and he just ran out of bubblegum.

TheAge.au ~ Senator Nick Xenophon wants an inquiry into the Church of Scientology and, based on his record, he just may get it.

THERE are a couple of things to know about Nick Xenophon. The first is that the independent senator from Adelaide has a genius for publicity. He's a hustler par excellence. The second is he's rationing his tabloid impulses in Canberra. Xenophon's record to date suggests he's opting for strategy rather than sensation; picking his political fights, not going at everything like a bull at a gate.

But when he goes, he goes with his plaintiff lawyer's bastardry. He held the Rudd Government's $42 billion stimulus package to ransom until he delivered the maximum benefit for his constituents - the parched and peeved irrigators of South Australia who warmed to his iconoclastic schtick, and put him there.

Xenophon's controversial outing this week on Scientology underscores how the independent from Adelaide is honing his modus operandi in the capital - using his considerable talents for self-promotion not as a thing in itself but as a tool to get things done. With no party structure to support him, and with Senate balance of power being a variable tool (given the mercurial Steve Fielding and the chaotically bombastic Barnaby Joyce), the only predictable power lies in changing the conversation.

Fair or unfair, right or wrong - and let's be very clear from the outset that the church says he's dead wrong - Xenophon's comments on Scientology and its alleged practices weren't a gratuitous brain explosion under the cloak of privilege. There was a sharp point.

His aim is to achieve a parliamentary inquiry. Next week the Senate, in its collective wisdom, will decide whether or not he gets it. Kevin Rudd has not been definitive yet but he's given the Xenophon allegations oxygen - significant in a week where the Prime Minister seems to have lost the capacity to answer questions. The Coalition is less keen. Whatever the result, it's clear Xenophon's latest crusade won't end there. ''On this I'm going to be a persistent bastard,'' he told me cheerfully.

...And Enter Anonymous
Like Scientology, Anonymous knows no borders. Over at WWP, they've wasted no time in setting up global rally points to show support to Senator Xenophon's endeavor.
Carmel Underwood with other Aussies and Sen. Xenophon are asking if everyone could write a petition and get some signatures at the Global Rally on Sunday. It is urgent because there will be a vote on MONDAY in Parliament on investigating the cult.
And if you can't get to a local rally, they also have a international online petition you can sign.

Xenophon: Intergalactic Badass

...he'll get around to taking names later.
nick intergalactic-badassWhat started from a blog entry title at FunnyCrave.com has lead to labeling of Australian senator Nick Xenophon's internet persona. There are just too many ironic coincidences not to be bestowed the title.

The attack on the Church of Scientology as a ''criminal organisation'' by the South Australian senator Nick Xenophon this week has sent the anti-Scientology movement into a spin but not for the obvious reason.

Apart from celebrating the prospect of an Australian parliamentary inquiry into allegations of murder, rape and forced abortion by church members, anti-church activists in the US are relishing the similarities between the senator's surname, Xenophon, and the name of the ''galactic overlord'' said to be a central figure in Scientology scriptures, Xenu.

Lord XenoBut this isn't some conquerer that showed up in DC-8 spacecraft. Nope. This is an elected official. FunnyCrave's riff continues with:

"...that means the people of Australia came together as a group in enough numbers to acknowledge they wanted Xenophon to get shit done on their behalf. They were all “Damn, all this Fosters and koala crap is weak. We need change.”

And then Xenophon appears and it seems like this man is taking guff from no one. He’s guffless. Not Paul Hogan, not Mel Gibson and sure as hell not Tom Cruise, because he’s fed up with Scientology.

Likely he intends to wait until he’s officially sanctioned by the government before he heads to the Australian HQ of Scientology and literally kicks the building to the ground. Literally. With his goddamn feet. Which will probably be bare because Nick Xenophon don’t need no damn shoes..."

Yep. We're talking down under badass. Here are a couple more shoop-dee-dupes of the Aussie's newest galactic leader from WWP:

Today Tonight (AU): Scientology Under Fire [video]

Scientology faces allegations of torture (among other things) in Australia

Guardian: The Australian prime minister, Kevin Rudd, has said he would consider an inquiry into the Church of Scientology after a senator tabled allegations against the organisation including forced abortions, assault, torture, imprisonment, covering up sexual abuse, embezzlement of church funds and blackmail.

Senator Nick Xenophon tabled letters from former officials and staff of the Church of Scientology alleging criminal activity, and demanded a review of the organisation's tax exempt status.

"Scientology is not a religious organisation, it is a criminal organisation that hides behind its so-called religious beliefs," he told the senate.

Among the letters tabled was one written by Aaron Saxton, from Perth, who said he engaged in torture and blackmail while working for the church in Australia and at its American headquarters between 1989 and 1996.

Rudd said the allegations were "grave" and that he would consider an inquiry, but said the evidence needed to be looked at carefully. "Many people in Australia have real concerns about Scientology. I share some of those concerns. But let us proceed carefully, and look carefully at the material which he has provided, before we make a decision on further parliamentary action," Rudd said.

AU Senator Calls Scientology a Criminal Organisation [video]

Australia Joins France With Scientology Call-Out

watoday.com.au ~ Independent senator Nick Xenophon has accused the Church of Scientology of being a criminal organisation, calling for it to be investigated by police and the parliament.

Senator Xenophon on Tuesday used parliamentary privilege to attack the church, after being contacted by a number of former Scientologists who accused the organisation of "shocking" crimes.

"Scientology is not a religious organisation, it is a criminal organisation that hides behind its so-called religious beliefs," he told the Senate.

Scientology, Melbourne, AU"... The letters received by me which were written by former followers in Australia contains extensive allegations of crimes and abuses that are truly shocking - crimes against them and crimes they say they were coerced into committing.

Senator Xenophon said their correspondence implicated the organisation in a range of crimes, including forced imprisonment, coerced abortions, embezzlement of church funds, physical violence, intimidation and blackmail.

From ParlInfo fragment: "...What we are seeing is a worldwide pattern of abuse and criminality. On the body of evidence this is not happening by accident; it is happening by design.

Scientology is not a religious organisation. It is a criminal organisation that hides behind its so-called religious beliefs. What you believe does not mean you are not accountable for how you behave.
"

The Church of Scientology released a statement last night accusing Senator Xenophon of an "outrageous" abuse of parliamentary privilege. The church's statement did not respond to any of the specific allegations made against it.

LasVegas Swat Gets Duped By Scientology Lawyers

Police Return Firearms To Anonymous Protester
las vegas scientology
Las Vegas Sun:~ Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman on Thursday ordered Metro Police to return everything they seized in a midnight raid last month at the Las Vegas home of anti-Scientologist Colby Schoolcraft. Lt. Kevin McMahill of Metro’s Counter Terrorism Section said police are disappointed that they have to return the weapons in the middle of the investigation. Police expect to decide whether to ask the district attorney to file charges against Schoolcraft within the next couple of weeks. Among the items SWAT officers and counterterrorism detectives took were several rifles, including a semi-automatic Yugoslavian AK-47, and numerous boxes and cases of ammunition.

Schoolcraft is a member of the Internet-fueled group Anonymous, which has embarked on a worldwide campaign to harass the celebrity-laden church. In court papers arguing for the return of the property, which also includes computers and anti-Scientology materials, Schoolcraft’s attorney, Chris Rasmussen, insisted Schoolcraft is just a gun enthusiast who is not planning to commit any acts of violence. “I don’t think it’s a blow to our case, but certainly we would have liked to keep those weapons and ammunition out of his hands at this point,” McMahill said. Rasmussen said his client’s Web posting was misinterpreted by police and the Scientology church, which the lawyer alleged has a history of trying to suppress the free speech rights of its critics.

Police arrested Schoolcraft, 23, during the raid for allegedly making threats against the Church of Scientology over the Internet, but the district attorney’s office has not filed a formal criminal complaint.

kendrick moxon scientology lawyerTop attorneys for the Los Angeles-area-based church had asked police to investigate Schoolcraft, a camera buff who has posted videos on YouTube of his group’s protests outside the Las Vegas Scientology church. Both the Web posting and the videos were put up under the screen name “cameranonymous.”

Saturday Night- BFG on 'Coast to Coast' [radio]

Marc Headley, author of Blown For Good, will be on the Coast to Coast AM radio show Saturday from 11PM-2AM (PST) to talk about the new book that peeks behind the Iron Curtain that is Scientology.
The book reveals details inside Scientology headquarters at the organization's "Gold Base", located near Hemet, California. Headley joined the organization at age seven when his mother became a member, and worked at Scientology's International Management Headquarters for several years before leaving in 2005.
The inner flap of the book includes a map of the "International Headquarters of Scientology; Gilman Hot Springs, California". Headley writes that under the direction of Scientology leader David Miscavige, employees who signed billion-year contracts routinely put in 100-hour weeks of work for minimal pay.
According to Headley, possible discipline faced by the Scientology employees for perceived mistakes included being separated from family as part of the Scientology policy of "disconnection", being declared a "suppressive person", or being sent to the "Rehabilitation Project Force", a program where Scientologists were assigned harsh labor.

You can listen live on the net or tune into one of the over 500 radio stations that will be airing the show across North America.
BFG's interview will start during the second hour. The fourth hour will be primarily for call-in questions. Broadcast times: Eastern 2 AM, Central 1 AM, Mountain 12 AM, Pacific 11 PM.

Butch Brokeback and the Couchjump Kid [again]

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
Ohhh Noooo. This rumor has raised it's ugly head again. Will somebody please get a shovel and put this thing out of it's misery? The only plus to this story, is I get to reuse the movie poster shoop from last April.

According to IOL Entertainment, "John Travolta and Tom Cruise are keen to remake ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’.

John said: "Someone came up with a good idea - it was a remake of ‘Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid’ - and there was a rumor that we were gonna do that, and I said to Tom, 'It's not a terrible rumor, it's not a bad idea.'"

Tom and John – who are both dedicated members of the bizarre sci-fi cult Scientology – have reportedly already met with scriptwriters and the film may be made by Tom’s United Artists Studio.

Tom is said to be keen to take on the role of bank robber Sundance, while John is keen to reprise Robert’s role of The Kid. The film is reportedly special to Tom and earlier this year a source said he was excited by plans to remake the film.

Tom getting excited about working with John? Katie's not going to be happy about that. Oh, and better order some extra Kleenex, or whatever Scilon actors use nowadays, to mop up their thetan goo. And as a reminder to Tom, the jump scene into the river isn't quite the same as jumping off Oprah's couch.

I think the Alternate Ending to Cruise's Risky Business pretty much sums up where the Sundance remake is heading.

peoplemagazinedaily.com: A scandalous new book explains some of the strange rituals Tom Cruise has performed as an elite member of Scientology.

Scientology In Hot Water Over Churchill Images

A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.~ Churchill

Winston Churchill looks none too happy about his image being used to promote Scientology literature. Well it's not exactly Winston himself, but Nicholas Soames, the Conservative MP for Mid Sussex, and grandson of Churchill’s, that's not happy about it.

From the TimesOnline: The family of Winston Churchill has asked the Church of Scientology to stop using images of the former prime minister in its recruitment literature.

The controversial religious organisation has been circulating promotional material to recruit staff in the UK which includes photographs of Churchill along with quotes from some of his most famous speeches.

It has also used Churchill’s image to promote speaking engagements by its members and campaigns to raise money to create new Scientology facilities in Britain.

In the same report, Scientology spokesperson replied: The church defended its use of Churchill in its materials and accused detractors of “trying to stir up mischief”. “The use of iconic images, including those available in the public domain, to add colour is of course done very commonly.”

Those mischief stirrers Scientology is referring too are most likely these gentlemen. Only thing I can add to this is: Continue stirring in a broad circular fashion till mischief has dissolved issue at hand. Then bake at 350o till golden brown.

NY Times = Merchants of Chaos

ARIEL KAMINER, New York Times writer, recently visited the Church of Scientology on West 46th Street in New York City. She tried to look into the church as JOsEphine PUBLIC, but was shown the door as soon as they found out she was a reporter.

But why, you ask? Because Scientology holds a certain disdain for journalists. Thanks to a WWP entry, we don't have to go to the Scientology site to get this information.
Scientology regards journalists in general as "merchants of chaos," as seen in this excerpt from Scientology's own web site:

"There are those who could be called 'merchants of chaos.' These are people who want an environment to look very, very disturbing. These are people who gain some sort of advantage, they feel, if the environment is made to look more threatening.

"An obvious example can be seen in newspapers. There are no good news stories. Newspapermen shove the environment in people’s faces and say, 'Look! It’s dangerous. Look! It’s overwhelming. Look! It’s threatening.' They not only report the most threatening bits of news, but also sensationalize it, making it worse than it is. What more do you want as a proof of their intention? This is the merchant of chaos. He is paid to the degree that he can make the environment threatening. To yearn for good news is foolhardy in a society where the merchants of chaos reign.
"

Ariel recalls towards the end of her visit, "...the instructors exchanged a few whispers, then asked everyone to leave for a short break. As they exited, a man in a tan suit entered, and extended his hand to me. He was the president of the New York chapter. Apparently while I had been studying, someone had been Googling. He complimented me on my articles in The New York Times. And my adventure in the press-shy Church of Scientology came to a halt. He was very polite, even inviting me back for a tour. But after a few minutes, he escorted me out..."

I believe she had just encountered John 'i thmell puthay' Carmichael. Apparently, John's nose must be on the fritz, because there's no mention in the article of what he was smelling at the time, and he didn't pick up the scent of a reporter right away. I'd get that checked out, John. You might be loosing your OT powers.

Cruise Control Set To 'Must See'

Scientology Employees Forced to Watch Tom Cruise Videos

RadarOnline: Scientology employees are forced to watch video montages of Tom Cruise as part of their training. According to a former member of the church the eccentric star is used as inspiration to those working at the sprawling compound in Gilman Hot Springs California.

And, while they are banned from reading newspapers or watching regular television, they are gathered at random times to view Cruise' appearances.

Marc Headley recounts, "At the International Headquarters they would record any appearances on TV shows or even mentions of Tom Cruise, or little stories they heard about him. Then they would re edit them and cut them together into a five or ten minute video of all the snippets of him on TV. But it was never the full interview or story.

"For example the actual footage might have said; 'Scientologist Tom Cruise, the biggest movie star in the world, acts like a crazy person on Oprah.' But what we saw was 'Tom Cruise, the biggest movie star in the world.' Then it would cut to the next thing.
"

So much for a religion that supposedly promotes total freedom of the mind. Sounds an more like the opening credits to Robot Chicken or a version of 1984.

Next BIG Thing in Reality TV?

It's like a bad dream that won't go away. Kirstie Alley plans to return to the small screen in an unscripted docu-series for A&E -- chronicling her continuing fight to lose weight.

"Kirstie is exactly the kind of star A&E is drawn to," an A&E executive told Variety. "Her personal life has been playing out in the media for years, but this will be the first time she'll be opening up her home to reveal her real life for the cameras."

Oh, who are we kidding here? The only time she looses weight is when she empties a pocketbook full of cash into Scientology's coffers.

Alley lost 75 pounds as a Jenny Craig spokesperson, revealing her bikini body on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006. Earlier this year, however, she returned to Winfrey's show to confess that she had ultimately gained 85 pounds -- weighing in at above 200 pounds.

BFG - Set Cruise Control To: BAKE

Mark Headley's escape from 'Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology'
tom cruise control
Put on your tin-foil helmets, kids. It's more from the way-out, wacky world that is Tom Cruise. And if it's about Tom Cruise, then you know L.Ron Hubbard's xenu-influenced world of Scientology is somehow involved.

This book isn't exactly all about Tom Cruise, but makes a hell of a lead-in. You see, this book, Blown For Good-Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology, is by Mark Headley, trained by Tom Cruise.

Title: Blown for Good - Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology Author: Marc Headley Publisher: BFG Books ISBN#: 9780982502204 From villagevoice.com: "In 1990, not long after he[Headley] was assigned to the sprawling Scientology compound at Gilman Hot Springs, near Hemet, California, Headley was told that he would be excused from his normal duties so that Tom Cruise -- fresh off his most recent success, the movie Days of Thunder -- could practice auditing on him."

"You do a lot of things with a book and a bottle," Headley says. "It's known as the book-and-bottle routine." Cruise, he says, would instruct Headley to speak to a book, telling it to stand up, or to sit down, or otherwise to move somewhere.

"You do the same with the bottle. You talk to it. You do it with an ashtray too," he says. "You tell the ashtray, 'Sit in that chair.' Then you actually go over and put the ashtray on the chair. Then you tell the ashtray, 'Thank you.' Then you do the same thing with the bottle, and the book. And you do this for hours and hours."

There's much more to this than the above paragraphs, so I recommend going over to the village voice and reading the complete four page review.

That Tom Cruise Video
Mark fills us in on the behind the scenes story of that way-out-there Tom Cruise Scientology video that was leaked to the internet in 2008.

As for that Medal of Valor event, Headley provides some fascinating background on the notorious 9-minute video which was created for it featuring Tom Cruise talking about his powers as a Scientologist. The video was leaked to the Internet in January, 2008 and Scientology's attempt to suppress it gave rise to the Anonymous movement, which has been such a thorn in the church's side ever since.

Headley was present as plans were made for the Cruise celebration video. The first version featured various Scientology celebrities talking about how much they loved Cruise. It was a "puff piece" and Miscavige hated it, Headley writes.

"The next batch of interviews done was of non-Scientologists who knew Tom. Everyone from Steven Spielberg to Will Smith was interviewed...Now we had all of these people talking about how Tom Cruise was a really nice guy. Being a nice guy does not get you an IAS Freedom Medal award." Miscavige hated this version too, and there were only a few weeks left before the event.

"David Miscavige ended up dictating the entire Tom Cruise video project. Dave's idea was that no one could talk about Tom Cruise better than Tom Cruise himself."

Headley says that everything -- from the segments used, to how they were arranged, to the choice of the music, and the smallest details of the edit -- were all the result of Miscavige's obsessive tinkering.

"Dave Miscavige later said that his Tom Cruise video was one of the most important videos that had ever been produced. He had no idea how true that was," Headley writes, referring to the flood of negative publicity the church has endured since the video was leaked last year.

Purge your Christmas Shopping Thetan [pic]

scientology's christmas e-meter
Had a tough week because your religion was declared a fraud in France? Upper management leaving in droves because of your leader's culture of intimidation and violence? Masked protesters showing up at every new church you open?

Well you're in luck, because Scientology has the answer. Yep, you just need to pick up a few new Mark Super VII Quantum E-Meters for stocking-stuffers this year (or suffer the wrath of a grinch-style sec-check)[see the whole catolog @ jezebel.com]

But my question is: Does it have a wear-strip on it like the Gillette Fusion Power Phenom that tells me when my Planet Dissemination Blue E-Meter is about ready for Xenu's eternal resting place? or do I just wait till David Miscavige tells me to buy a new one?

Tip of the 'ol yuletide tuke to WWP.

Scamology: The World Wakes Up. Some Of It

parody of cover
After the French found Scientologists Guilty of Fraud last week, we find other parts of the world beginning to chime in:

Israeli Center for Victims of Cults declares Scientology the Biggest Cult in Israel
Keren noted that Scientology was declared a dangerous cult by a special parliamentary committee in the 1980s supported by the police, but despite continuing efforts by her group, there is no legislation in Israel to fight the activities of cults like this. She says Scientology uses agressive marketing in an attempt to get its followers to give the cult their property.

But Scientology seems to have slipped into the home of the original internet scam, Nigeria (and other African countries).
It has already infiltrated South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nairobi, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and, in February this year, set up a school in Ghana.

It seems so odd that Scientology would want to expand into the very countries L.Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, held so much contempt for. A few examples from books he authored:

The South African native is probably the one impossible person to train in the entire world he is probably impossible by any human standard.-- L. Ron Hubbard
PAB No. 119, 1 September 1957, as published in Level 0 PABS (c.1968, The American St. Hill Organization).

The African tribesman, with his complete contempt for truth and his emphasis on brutality and savagery for others but not for himself, is a no-civilization. L. Ron Hubbard
Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought, Bridge Publications: Los Angeles, 1997.

The Zulu is only outside the bars of a madhouse because there are no madhouses provided by his tribe. primitives are far more aberrated than civilized peoples. Their savageness, their unprogressiveness, their incidence of illness. -- L. Ron Hubbard
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, Bridge Publications, Los Angeles, 1995.

A heads up to Africa: The trans-atlantic slave traders of the 21st century have arrived on your shores. Time to remember your history. It's about to repeat itself.

ThanX to WWP for the tip.
