ACA/Ch9: Scientology Fights Public Benefit Tax [video]

scientology tax abuse australiaACA/CH9 ~ An investigation is underway to determine whether controversial religious sect, The Church of Scientology, should be taxed on its proceeds [in Australia].

They, and other charities, may have to prove that they are doing a public benefit before receiving a tax break. Some say they're secretive, abusive and now are being put under a microscope.

Also interviewed, Janette Lang, a member of the Church of Scientology for 13 years from when she was 20 years old. She says she has been damaged by her involvement with the church and some years worked for a pay of just $2,000. Ms Lang says she was pressured to have two abortions or risk being cut off from the church.

Senator Nick Xenophon adds this,"..for her to speak out is a tremendous act of courage. It's why we need to change the law, because of people like Janette, they need to be protected and have a system in place that holds organizations to account."

Scientology representatives also gave a laughable explanation on why the New Zealand branch of Scientology's reported income dropped tremendously after have to prove they're public benefit.
